Cold, sweet ice cream meets hot, roasty espresso

Learn how to make this quintessential Italian dessert, with a pinch of chocolate and a sprinkling of sea salt. The affogato is easy to make and a treat for the senses. Here’s our favorite version of this creamy dessert.


Start with 2 scoops vanilla bean ice cream in a bowl.


Pour hot espresso (or coffee) over the ice cream, making a steamy moat around the scoops.


Sprinkle chocolate shavings on top, then finish it off with a sea salt flourish.


Serve immediately, and enjoy!


What You'll Need

  • 2 scoops vanilla bean ice cream

  • ¼ cup hot espresso or brewed coffee

  • Chocolate shavings

  • Pinch of sea salt

  • ½ tablespoon Grand Marnier - optional
