Smoked Sea Salt Coffee Float

Looking for a delicious way to cool off on a warm day? Try this fresh take on a traditional ice cream float. Easy to make at home, this cold brew coffee drink is ready to delight anyone who loves the combination of sweet and salty.

    coffee
  • 1
    gallon
    plus 1 cup filtered water
  • 2
    scoops
    vanilla gelato (or ice cream)
  • 1
    cup
    sugar
  • 1
    vanilla bean, scraped*
  • A pinch of smoked sea salt, plus more for garnish
  • Sparkling water

  • Large mason jar
  • Cheesecloth
  • Saucepan

HOW TO MAKE

Smoked Sea Salt Coffee Float

    Cover a large mason jar with cheesecloth.

    Add coffee.

  • 03

    Fill with the gallon of pure, filtered water.

  • 04

    Steep for 12 hours at room temperature.

  • 05

    Make the Smoked Sea Salt and Vanilla Syrup by combining 1 cup water, raw sugar, vanilla and smoked sea salt in saucepan (detailed steps below).

    Bring to a boil to dissolve sugar, then let cool.

    Strain cold brew and discard cheesecloth with grounds.

    For the coffee float, mix Smoked Sea Salt Syrup and cold brew in glass.

    Add vanilla gelato or ice cream.

    Top with a splash of sparkling water.

    Garnish with smoked sea salt.

Smoked Sea Salt and Vanilla Syrup

    Split the vanilla bean* lengthwise, scrape the seeds using the edge of a knife, then add both the bean and seeds to a saucepan.

    • *If vanilla beans aren’t available, substitute 1 Tbsp vanilla extract

    Add in all other ingredients over medium heat and cook until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to a boil.

    Remove from heat and cool completely.

    Pour into a glass jar and store at room temperature.

TIPS

*If vanilla beans aren’t available, substitute 1 Tbsp vanilla extract.
